NATIONAL MEETS & CAMPS

  • The Namibia Section hosted the Southern Africa Mountaineering & Climbing Meet in April 2001: Spitzkoppe, Brandberg, Omanduba, Harmony.
  • They also hosted the 1998 National Meet (Mini Camp) from 5 - 10 May 1998. Base Camp was at the farm Wilsonfontein and Spitzkoppe as well as Brandberg were visited.

ACTIVITIES

  • COMMITTEE MEETINGS are held every two months.
  • NEWSLETTERS are sent out to all voting and country members. Climbing & hiking venues and socials are advertised in the newsletter.
  • ADVERTISING BOX: The Club has an advertising box in Independence street, near the old watchtower, in which the newsletter with the coming events and climbing photographs are placed. All relevant telephone numbers are also advertised.
  • ACTIVITIES: The main activities of the Namibia Section of the MCSA are rock climbing and hiking.
  • ROCK CLIMBING: Mainly two categories i.e. TRAD CLIMBING and SPORT CLIMBING.
  • SEASON: November to the end of February are the summer months in Namibia. Very hot weather can then be experienced. The best climbing and hiking weather is during the cooler dry winter months.

CLIMBING AREAS

  • GREAT SPITZKOPPE AND PONTOKS: About 280km NW of Windhoek. There are about 100 sport-climbing routes from grade 15 to about 30 and 50 trad routes from grade 12 to 27 on granite. Trad can be climbed from one- to multi pitch routes including "big wall" climbing on 450m high walls. No access problems. Route books available in South Africa and Namibia.
  • ANIBIB/OMANDUMBA: Situated about 250km NNW of Windhoek. About 100 sport climbs of up to grade 22 and 30 trad routes of up to grade 22 on granite. The area is still being developed. This is a private farm and permission to climb must be obtained from the owner. Route books are available in Windhoek and Swakopmund.
  • AMEIB RANCH: This guest farm is situated 30km north of Usakos in the Erongo Mountains. Still being developed, there are already over a hundred bolted/trad and mixed routes (granite). Route books available at receiption. Booking for camping is essential. Tel: +264 64 530904
